Intern - Structures

SuYash Consulting, LLC is seeking a Structures Intern to support structural engineering projects involving bridges, transportation structures, roadway structures, and related infrastructure.

The ideal candidate is a motivated Civil or Structural Engineering student interested in learning how structural engineering principles are applied to real-world transportation projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist engineers with structural engineering calculations, analysis, and design.

  • Support preparation and review of structural plans, details, specifications, and technical reports.

  • Assist with bridge and structural condition assessments.

  • Participate in field visits and structural investigations.

  • Collect and organize field measurements, photographs, and inspection information.

  • Assist with structural rehabilitation and repair concepts.

  • Support quantity calculations and preliminary cost estimates.

  • Assist with CADD production and plan development using MicroStation/OpenRoads or other engineering software.

  • Review engineering drawings and documents for completeness and consistency.

  • Research applicable AASHTO, MDOT SHA, MDTA, and other applicable standards and guidelines.

  • Assist project engineers with technical documentation and project deliverables.

  • Participate in project meetings and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Perform other engineering tasks under the direction of experienced engineers.

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.

  • Completion of introductory coursework in structural analysis/design.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Preferred:

  • Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar CADD software.

  • Coursework in structural analysis, reinforced concrete, steel design, or bridge engineering.

  • Familiarity with AASHTO or transportation engineering standards.

  • Previous engineering, construction, or field experience.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Position Type: 

Full Time/Part Time

Salary Range: 

$20 - $23/hour (depending on academic level, technical skills, prior experience, and internship responsibilities).

Working Conditions for All Positions:

Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sitting in nature but may require occasional standing, and walking. Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
