Intern - Highways

SuYash Consulting, LLC is seeking a Highway Engineering Intern to support transportation planning, roadway design, traffic, drainage coordination, construction support, and infrastructure projects.

This position is ideal for students who want to understand how a transportation project moves from concept to design to construction.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist highway engineers with roadway design and engineering assignments.

  • Support preparation of roadway plans, details, exhibits, and technical documents.

  • Assist with horizontal and vertical alignment development.

  • Support roadway geometry and grading calculations.

  • Assist with quantity calculations and cost estimates.

  • Review existing plans, surveys, utility information, and project data.

  • Assist with field investigations and site visits.

  • Support traffic-control and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) concepts.

  • Assist with coordination between roadway, drainage, structural, traffic, and environmental disciplines.

  • Assist with CADD production using MicroStation/OpenRoads or similar software.

  • Support constructability reviews.

  • Assist with construction-phase engineering services.

  • Research MDOT SHA, MDTA, AASHTO, and other applicable standards.

  • Participate in project meetings and multidisciplinary coordination.

  • Assist in preparation of project deliverables.

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.

  • Coursework in transportation/highway engineering.

  • Basic understanding of engineering mathematics and geometry.

  • Ability to read engineering drawings.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Preferred:

  • Experience with MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, InRoads, GIS, or similar software.

  • Transportation engineering coursework.

  • Familiarity with roadway design principles.

  • Knowledge of MDOT SHA/MDTA standards.

  • Previous construction or transportation experience.

  • Valid driver's license.

Position Type: 

Full Time/Part Time

Salary Range: 

$20- $23/hour (depending on academic level, software proficiency, and experience).

Working Conditions for All Positions:

Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sitting in nature but may require occasional standing, and walking. Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
